FAQ

Questions worth asking before you start

How is this different from hiring a fractional or virtual COO?

A fractional COO typically takes ongoing operational responsibility within the leadership team. Fair Measure addresses a defined operational problem through a fixed-scope project, then transfers the resulting system and ownership to your team. If the business needs continuing executive leadership across operations, a fractional COO is likely the better fit. Compare the two approaches.

Why isn't pricing published on the site?

The Operational Diagnostic is fixed-scope and receives a fixed price after the paid Scoping Engagement establishes the size and complexity of the issue. Business Systems Transformation engagements require the same grounding unless an Operational Diagnostic has already provided it. Publishing a price before the scope is understood would create false precision.

What if we're not sure which engagement we need?

The Operational Fit Call confirms whether there is a potential fit. The paid Scoping Engagement defines the appropriate project. The Operational Diagnostic then establishes the evidence, root cause, business impact, and priorities. If the business proceeds, Transformation implements the solution using that groundwork rather than repeating it.

Is this Lean Six Sigma consulting, or process mapping?

Those are tools Fair Measure uses when they're the right ones for the problem — not the service itself. The engagement is about finding what's costing your business time, money, and consistency, and fixing it. Root cause analysis, process redesign, and technology implementation are how that gets done, not what you're buying.

How long before we see results?

The diagnostic typically produces a clear picture of the problem and a roadmap within a few weeks of starting. Transformation timelines depend on scope, and get set explicitly when the engagement is scoped — so you know the timeline before you commit, not after.

Do you offer ongoing retainers?

No, and that's intentional. Every engagement is project-based with a defined scope and endpoint. If new problems surface later, that's a new, separately scoped engagement — not an open-ended arrangement.

Do you work with our industry?

Fair Measure works with workflow-driven businesses, including financial and professional services, B2B technology and technology-enabled services, engineering and project-based professional firms, commercial field services, and agencies with complex delivery operations. The Operational Fit Call is the fastest way to determine whether your specific situation is a fit.

What size businesses does Fair Measure work with?

Fair Measure typically works with established, owner-led businesses with 20 to 100 employees and annual revenue of $3 million or more. Fit depends less on a precise cutoff than on whether operational complexity is limiting capacity, consistency, or growth.

Have a question about fit?

An Operational Fit Call is the most direct way to determine whether Fair Measure is appropriate for your situation.
